JULY 9, 16, 23, 30 & AUGUST 6 / 05
SATURDAYS ONLY: 9am-5pm

This is a meditative group experience for the study of ethics. The ethics
of nonviolence is emphasized in personal, historical, and philosophical
contexts. Many Western, Middle Eastern, and Asian viewpoints from history
are used to shed light upon a nonviolent theory of ethics, i.e., Feminist,
Pragmatic, Christian, Islamic, Buddhist, Jainist, Confucian, Taoist,
Existential, Ecological, Perennial, etc.
Concern is upon making real connections between a theory of nonviolence
and the actual experiences of persons in society. Contemporary social and
moral problems are discussed. Emphasis is upon the values and ideals of a
nonviolent ethics in one’s own personal life and the world. Talks,
dialogue, readings, videos and meditations used. The course will be held at
the beautiful retreat center of the Agape Community in Hardwick, MA.
Students should meet at WSC for their first meeting and the directions to
Agape.
